Why buy a work of art?
Buying a work of art is something special and is unlike anything else. It’s an act of love, without reason, that should not let slip through your fingers.
Having works of art at home invites reflection and enjoyment, offering moments of emotion, interrogation, sometimes even pleasure. In some ways, these works are a part of us; they participate in the construction of our personality.
The pleasure of buying art goes way beyond this everyday connection with the work, since the actual process before the act of buying is itself sometimes a wonderful experience: encounters, research, memorable conversations.
Here is one of the first keys to help you acquire your first work. Give free rein to your feelings. A work of art that speaks to you is an open window to your private world. The day you see the work you need, you’ll know it. It will always be on your mind, you will come and study it, analyse it, until you reach the point of perfect fusion.
Loving art means loving adventure. As Fyodor Dostoyevsky said: “Beauty will save the world!” Now it’s your turn!
Certified and authenticated works
All the works on Momarts.fr are verified, appraised and authenticated.
The price of a work of art is set by the gallery and the artist according to several criteria, in particular its method of production and the inherent costs of this, its dimensions, the number of copies produced or in circulation, the artist’s reputation and market value at the time of the purchase, and the importance of the piece in the artist’s body of work.
The works sold by Momarts come with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. This certificate and the invoice will be sent to you when the work is delivered, once the transaction has been completed.
The invoice will provide proof of purchase and must submitted to the administrative services to justify tax exemption conditions.

How long does delivery take?
Delivery times vary according to the type of work, its origin and its destination. The number of days is indicated for each work.
Parcels are generally sent within two days after confirmation of payment. They are shipped by a specialist carrier with a tracking number and delivered without signature. The parcels may also be sent in premium mode with signature on receipt. This delivery method implies additional costs.
Whatever the delivery method chosen, you will receive a link allowing you to track your parcel online.
As soon as the parcel is delivered to our carrier, you will receive an email with the name of the carrier, the parcel number, and the approximate delivery date.
How much are the delivery costs?
Delivery costs are at the buyer’s expense and are calculated on the basis of a price list that varies according to the size and weight of the work, as well as the country of delivery. The prices indicated under the work include VAT, but exclude delivery costs and any other taxes relating to export.
Do I have to pay import taxes when I have a work delivered?
Different tax rules and additional charges may apply depending on your delivery address.
If the work ordered comes from a member country of the European Economic Area (member countries of the European Union as well as Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein) and you yourself are a national of this area, you will not be invoiced import tax. If you live outside this area, you may be required to pay taxes and customs duties not included in the import price when you receive your products.
Momarts is not responsible for these charges, and cannot control them or predict their amount.
You are fully responsible for these. Please contact your local customs office for further information before placing your order.
Taxation of works of art
In France, the taxation of works of art varies according to whether you are the buyer or the seller, a private individual or a company.
Taxation of works of art for private individuals
The purchase of works of art is subject to VAT. The rate applied is 20% and is reduced to 5.5% for:
• works acquired in France;
• imports of works of art (from the European Union or not);
• works acquired directly from the artists or his/her beneficiaries.
VAT does not apply if the purchase is made from a seller not subject to VAT.
The taxation of works of art for resale differs according to the date of acquisition. When works of art are sold, the seller can opt for:
• a flat-rate tax equal to 6.5% of the sale price;
• a capital gains tax at 36.2% with an abatement of 5% per year of ownership and total exemption after twenty-five years of ownership.
The transfer of works of art is tax-free in the case of sales:
• to museums or public institutions;
• less than €5,000;
• by a seller that is not domiciled in France for tax purposes.
Taxation of works of art for companies
Under certain conditions, many companies can benefit from a tax discount for the purchase of art works.
To be eligible, the works of art must be acquired from a living artist with or without an intermediary.
They must be exhibited in a place that is accessible to the public and/or the company’s employees for five years.
They may also be entrusted to a museum. If it is musical instruments, these must be loaned to artists-performers who request them free of charge.
